tourna.gg

PHONE SETUP SHEET

Get match alerts on your phone

tourna.gg can tell you when your match is up, when someone reports a score against you, and when a result you're in is contested — without you keeping the page open or watching the pairing board. On Android that works straight away. On iPhone there is one extra step.

iPhone and iPad

Apple only lets a website send notifications once it has been added to your home screen. Until you do this, iPhone will not even offer to turn notifications on.

  1. 1.Open tourna.gg in Safari. This does not work in Chrome or Firefox on iPhone, or inside the browser that opens when you tap a link in Discord or Instagram — if you got here from one of those, tap the menu and choose Open in Safari.
  2. 2.Tap the Share button in the Safari toolbar. It is the square with an arrow pointing up out of it, usually at the bottom of the screen.
  3. 3.Scroll down the list and choose Add to Home Screen.
  4. 4.Tap Add. A tourna.gg icon appears on your home screen.
  5. 5.Open tourna.gg from that icon and sign in. It will ask whether to allow notifications — tap Allow.

Needs iOS 16.4 or later. From then on, open tourna.gg from the home screen icon rather than Safari — notifications only reach the installed version.

Android

Nothing to do. Notifications work in a normal Chrome tab — open tourna.gg, sign in, and tap Allow when your phone asks. Chrome may also offer to install tourna.gg as an app; that just gives you a home screen icon and a full-screen window. It is optional and changes nothing about your notifications.

Why iPhone needs the extra step

This is an Apple restriction rather than a tourna.gg limitation. Safari does not give websites access to notifications at all; that access is granted only to a web app installed on the home screen. Every site that sends iPhone notifications without an App Store download works this way.
